What a fantastic meetup we had on 7/24! Thanks to Trish for organizing and Katherine for hosting! Here is a list of the apps we talked about. If I have forgotten any, let me know, and I’ll add them.
- Be My Eyes – For live volunteer help, but especially good for photo description
- SeeingAI – Great for short text. I use this when out and about to read signs.
- Lazarillo – Navigation app
- Aira—Professional Visual Interpreters. It has a cost, but there are many Access Partners, such as Target, UPenn, PHL, etc. The AI component is in beta.
- Envision – OCR and wearables.
- WeWALK – Navigation app. They also have a smart cane, but you don’t need it to use the app.
- OKO – Recognize pedestrian signals using artificial intelligence. Simply raise your phone and Oko will notify you when the walk sign is on. Other navigation tools in beta.
- PI – Personal AI assistant
- Google Maps – Maps and navigation
- Good Maps – Indoor navigation. (We didn’t discuss, but I just thought of it.)
- Voice Vista – Navigation based on the discontinued SoundScape app.
- PiccyBot – Audio description for video content. Personal vids, not movies or tv.
- That Real Blind Tech Show – Podcast about blind tech with a humorous slant. I guest host occasionally.
- Support iCantCU—Please use this link when you shop at Amazon. I earn a small commission on qualifying purchases, and it doesn’t cost you anything extra. I really appreciate it!
