AT Expo At CBVI And The Trip Home

Here is a perfect example of why I have to listen more and look less. As I’ve mentioned more than a few times, I do have a little bit of sight. Today, when preparing for the podcast, I went to the CBVI Facebook page to see what the title of the event I went to there earlier this week. I used my eye instead of my ear. What my left eye saw, after zooming in, was AI Expo, not AT Expo. So, I called it that throughout the podcast. After recording the episode and adding all the tags, I realized my mistake. Too late to go back and make a correction. While there may have been some Artificial Intelligence at the expo, it was clearly an event for assistive technology (and my second error. In the description, I used the accessible, which isn’t false, but it is also not correct. Accessible technology is any technology that allows a disabled person to use whatever the device is. In the case of someone who is blind, an example of accessible technology is an earphone jack in an ATM that would allow the blind person to listen to the prompts and hear what is being displayed on the screen.

Assistive technology is something that, well, assists the disable person do a task. For example, in the podcast i mentioned CCTV devices that allow someone with low vision to read. Here is a link to the Explorer Classic LCD CCTV Magnifier from MagniSight. Some of these devices now will even read the text to you, just like several smartphone apps. The link that is here is an affiliate link. That means if you click it and then buy something, anything from Amazon.com, I will earn a small commission. It doesn’t cost you any thing to click the link and make a purchase and, as they say, every little bit helps. So, please, click the link and make a purchase. Maybe you need a new end of summer read or a new tv. Click that link and make the purchase! It would be greatly appreciated.
